Mr. John Skober joined the civil service and became the Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) Lead for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), located in San Diego, in 2012. In this role, he is accountable for the management and leadership of the people, processes and tools required for department audit readiness across the command.
Mr. Skober has over ten years of industry experience, which began at Lockheed Martin where he was a Contract Accountant for their Aeronautics programs. In this capacity, he was part of the company’s system migration team responsible for transitioning legacy accounting systems into SAP R/3 Enterprise Resource Planning. As part of the company’s Corporate Internal Audit department, he worked on numerous audits of their internal financial reporting controls to ensure managerial compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 404.
Mr. Skober continued his career as an Internal Audit Consultant facilitating other companies’ efforts to meet Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. He established Internal Control programs, leveraging information technology and data analytics to mitigate financial risk in an organically sustainable manner. In 2009, Mr. Skober began working with SPAWAR as the contract support team lead for its Navy Financial Improvement Program. In 2012, he transitioned into civil service to become the lead for all matters pertaining to furthering the command’s transformation to an audit-ready culture.
Mr. Skober received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2002 with a concentration in risk management. In 2006, he earned his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College. Mr. Skober’s other community work includes serving as the Neighborhood Code Compliance Chair for the Pacific Beach Planning Group.
