Your personal data is stored by AFERM on its servers, and on the servers of the cloud-based database management services AFERM engages, located in the United States. AFERM retains data for the duration of each member’s and sponsor’s business relationship with AFERM and for up to 60 months thereafter to allow members to recover accounts if they decide to renew, to analyze the data for AFERM’s own operations, and for historical and archiving purposes associated with AFERM’s history as a membership association. Use of the aferm.org website
As is true of most other websites, AFERM’s website collects certain information automatically and stores it in log files. The information may include
  • internet protocol (IP) addresses
  • the region or general location where your computer or device is accessing the internet
  • browser type
  • operating system
  • other information about the use of AFERM’s website, including a history of the pages you viewed

We use this information to help us design our site to better suit our users’ and visitors’ needs. We may also use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our website, analyze trends, track visitor movements, and gather broad demographic information that assists us in identifying visitor preferences.

AFERM has a legitimate interest in understanding how visitors, members, sponsors and potential sponsors use its website. This assists AFERM with providing more relevant products and services, communicating value to our members and sponsors, and providing appropriate staffing to meet member and sponsor needs.

When and how we share information with others
Information about your AFERM purchases and certification status are maintained in association with your membership or profile account. The personal information AFERM collects from you is stored in one or more databases hosted by third parties located in the United States. These third parties do not use or have access to your personal information for any purpose other than cloud storage and retrieval. On occasion, AFERM engages third parties to mail/email information to you, including items like event tickets you may have purchased, or material from an event sponsor.
Transferring personal data from the European Union (EU) to the United States (U.S.)
AFERM has its headquarters in the U.S. and its website and activities are solely targeted at a U.S. audience. In particular, AFERM collects and transfers to the U.S. personal data only: with your consent; to perform a contract with you; or to fulfill a compelling legitimate interest of AFERM in a manner that does not outweigh your rights and freedoms.
Changes and updates to the Privacy Notice
As our organization, membership and benefits change from time to time, this Privacy Notice is expected to change as well. We reserve the right to amend the Privacy Notice at any time, for any reason, without notice to you, other than the posting of the amended Privacy Notice on this website. We may email periodic reminders of our notices and terms and conditions and will e-mail AFERM members of material changes thereto, but you should check our website frequently to see the current Privacy Notice that is in effect and any changes that may have been made to it.
