OMB Re-vamping A-123, Removing Many Enterprise Risk Concepts: The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is revamping its circular A-123 and removing many enterprise risk concepts when experts think that this type of holistic approach is needed the most. In a draft version that was published, it was noticed that OMB has removed all references to enterprise risk management (ERM). Instead, the draft memo combines concepts of ERM back into sections focused on internal controls and maintains some aspect of an enterprise approach. It also retains the requirement for agencies to name a chief risk officer (CRO). Learn more about this development.
Re-imaging ERM: From Risk to Resilience: A new transformative approach, called Enterprise Resilience Management (EReM) is emerging, focusing on converting identified risks into opportunities for resilience. It is founded in existing principles of ERM and strategic resilience, to focus on assessing and addressing risks in a digital world and removing silos. Key components of this new approach include risk identification and assessment, risk response, along with cross functional teaming and alignment of risk and resilience. Learn more about this new approach.
Need to Break Down Silos for Visibility into Enterprise Risk: Risk management efforts in many organizations is hampered by fragmented efforts and initiatives across the organization that do not communicate with each other.
This makes it increasingly challenging for organizations to deal with a complex array of risks, including cybersecurity, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain
risk. Risk management efforts are hindered by data silos within the organization’s different risk management functions. Lack of collaboration is pervasive across
industries. Organizational leaders must therefore, tackle both cultural and technology issues to bring teams together and gain a more comprehensive view of risk
across the organization. Learn more.
