Laurie Champion

Responsibilities
Laurie serves as an executive client advisor and relationship leader, working with clients and colleagues to deliver the best of Aon to support client needs and aspirations. She is one of Aon’s leading experts in corporate risk management and strategic / enterprise risk management.

Experience
From 2013 through 2016, Laurie served as the Chief Operating Officer for Aon Atlanta. Prior to this assignment, Laurie led Aon’s U.S. Enterprise Risk Management practice and co-led the global consulting practice from 2008-2013. She is a founding leader of the Aon Risk Maturity Index ©, an award-winning global index that provides clients with insight into risk management capabilities and maturity target(s). Aon’s Risk Maturity Index © also supports a risk management research across industry sectors and geographies.
Before joining Aon, Laurie led the global risk management teams for for Ford Motor Company and Coca-Cola Enterprises (prior to its acquisition by The Coca-Cola Company). Before joining Ford, Laurie served in a variety of roles in both North America and Europe with Marsh & McLennan (Johnson & Higgins).
Laurie’s experience includes corporate risk management, strategic / enterprise risk management, design and placement of complex insurance/reinsurance programs, group captive management, claims management frameworks, resolution of complex claims (mass tort, industrial accidents), operational risk management including business continuity planning and supply chain risk assessment, financial risk management, treasury internal control, and risk data, systems and analysis.
Laurie has volunteered for many years with professional organizations such as RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society – serving on the Enterprise Risk Management Committee and the Standards and Practices Committee), the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management – serving on the board and co-leading development of AFERM’s annual ERM Summit, the National Association of Corporate Directors — serving on the Atlanta Advisory Board and supporting strategic growth of that chapter, Georgia State University’s Risk Management Foundation (serving as Trustee, Board Chair) and various director forums and institutes. She teaches in the MBA program at Georgia State and is a frequent speaker on topics such as corporate risk management, enterprise risk management and the intersection of strategy and risk.
Within the community, Laurie serves on the board for the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where she is a member of the audit committee and chairs the risk committee. She is a lifelong member of the Association of Junior Leagues, serving in five leagues both domestically and internationally, with a focus on fundraising and programs associated with literacy and childhood security.

Education
Laurie earned her MBA and undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan. Among other professional certifications, she has earned the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARMe).
